EUROFER President Henrik Adam met with senior representatives of the Turkish steel industry at a high-level meeting hosted by ALMAMET International Group at Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul. Istanbul, 6 September 2026 – Senior representatives of the Turkish iron and steel industry convened in Istanbul to assess the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and its potential implications for the sector.
Hosted by ALMAMET International Group at Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul, the meeting brought together executives from leading Turkish steel producers, industry organisations and representatives of the European steel sector.
Henrik Adam Presents EUROFER’s Perspective on CBAM
The meeting’s keynote speaker was Henrik Adam, President of EUROFER.
During his presentation, Adam addressed the European Union’s carbon-related regulatory framework, the implementation of CBAM and its potential implications for steel producers. He also shared his assessment of the strategic outlook for the European steel industry and the market conditions expected to shape the sector in the coming period.
The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion, providing participants with the opportunity to exchange views directly with the EUROFER President on the implementation of CBAM and the broader outlook for the European steel industry.

CBAM, Competitiveness and the Transition of the Steel Industry
The discussions focused on the potential impact of CBAM on Turkish steel producers supplying the European market.
Key topics included carbon-related costs, competitiveness in the European market, emissions management, green transition investments and the implications of the EU’s evolving climate and trade policies for the steel industry.
Participants also discussed the increasing importance of strategic preparation as environmental performance, carbon intensity and regulatory compliance become more closely linked to access to the European market and international competitiveness.

The meeting provided a platform for direct dialogue between representatives of the Turkish and European steel industries.
